I`m 76 Yrs old.... when I was Living in La Jolla...it was`nt against the law... Used to jump with my pals. This was back in 1942 when you could fill a gunny sack with Abalone, lobster, barracuda and etc. not against the law then. La Jolla was a kids paradise swimming, diving, hiking the foothills, shooting quail and rabbits. trapping skunks and etc.

Hello from the East. Will looks like you have your hands full with reopening The Clam. May need a fund raiser to support your cause. The site is looking good. This may be the year where the East and West can get together to our enjoy our sport. Adios from the frozen East Coast.

  • Kirsten Annesley Canada Nov 26, 2003
Hey Everyone! Wow, the clam looks like a super fun place to give'r. I'm a Canadian Cliff jumper and a girl.....ha ha. I've got a couple pics on www.airabovewater.com and www.bridgejumping.com for Canada. Hopefully someday I will make it to the clam. Is cliff jumping really illegal there? That's insane. It's winter and cold here so you poeple dont' know how lucky you are!!! Stay cool y'all, and keep your stick on the ice!

Hey, I am only fourteen:/. but if theres anything I can do to help...
  • Will Childers USA Nov 5, 2003
That is a really good question Evan. I would really like to see The Clam reopened. The first step is going to be finding a lawyer that would take on the case for us and get some donations that will pay for it. Check out my arguments here: http://www.theclam.com/Reopen.asp

You can also watch that KSWB News story again here:
    http://www.theclam.com/Video/KSWBTV.ASP

If you can help us in anyway, I would appreciate it. Just send me an e-mail.

    Will

Hey, I saw that KSW 5 report on the clam by that reporter. How he talked if a lifeguard is positioned that people could jump safely. That all sounds good, is anything going to happen so that people can go their again legally?

    This is for Skorch:

I find it's best to point the toes toward the water on point of entry.
  • Will Childers USA Oct 23, 2003
Good point mad hatter. I'll do some thinging about that one and some research. Thanks for the input!

    will-
i just read the article "Re-open the clam",and i have some advice:
i don't know if you feel the same way but i think cliff jumping is a very religious experience. and it's our right, guranteed to us by the CONSTITUTION, to be able to choose ANY religion, we see fit. the supreme court deals with laws that dispute the constitution, and the constitution always wins. the only thing is, they can only hear "real" cases, or cases where some one is found guilty of the un-constitutional law. then you have to appeal all the way to the supreme court, i don't see how we could lose when the constitution is on our side. of course there are a great deal of "constitutional rights" that have been taken away from us, in the name of things like safety and home land security, but it's worth a chance. i'm no lawyer, just a high school kid who finished a U.S. government class, but i think if the cliff jumpers banded together we could beat these fascist dictators.

I have a question and the only people who can answer it are people who have jumped from over 100 feet and into saltwater. I tried a large bridge jump last spring and had perfect water entry but when I hit the water my feet skipped resulting in a large amount of pain and 1 shoe being ripped off of my foot. I held them flat to the water. My question is does that always happen or is there something I can do to prevent that. Should I point my toes or wear boots? What do you do? Have you ever been injured while doing Dead Man's Jump? I appreciate your knowledge and help because I will be jumping into water that has Great White sharks in it and shark sighting season started the other day

Hey I live in Ventura County and a fat cliff jump is being closed, Red Rock, Santa Barbara. A few people have died from jumping from the 80 foot cliff. The sudden collision with rocks is what does them in. La Brinca Canyon in Thousand Oaks has been shut down for 18 years due to the city not wanting to airlift victims out. I have recieved tickets and it really pisses me off and would like to do whatever I can to reopen these places. I feel that a constitutional lawsuit saying our right to the pursuit of happiness and the liberty to make our own decisions has been infringed upon. It also only takes 4 people to start a religion and then it would be religious discrimination to outlaw our churches, I mean cliffs.
    Jump safe and often

    Don't Drink and Jump!!!
  • the mad hatter Sep 5, 2003
your web site is awesome , but the photos don't give very good perspective of the jumps other than Dead Man's,i guess i'll have to make the 4 hour pilgrimage and check it out myself, along with the devil's punchbowl, and cougar canyon, maybe even farther south to la bufadora in ensenada, mexico.
    See you at the cliffs.

Fabulous site. I jumped the clam in college in 1982 and it was great. I don't think I have the balls anymore to do Dead Man's. I work with Will and he's a stud!
