"The Clam" History

The Point AKA Goldfish Point - named for the abundance of gold-hued garibaldi fish - is the eastern most of La Jolla’s several coves and is well protected from westerly Pacific swells by a mini peninsula (the point) jutting northward into the sea. The lack of wave bashing promotes luxuriant kelp growth as well as safe habitat for a kaleidoscope of California reef creatures. Another reason marine life is so plentiful is that Goldfish Point is part of the La Jolla Underwater Park which prohibits the hunting or collecting of marine organisms.
